After the final pages have been created for a scholarly writing, you will be asked to prepare a
subject index. The preparation of an adequate subject index requires a
thorough knowledge of the subject matter of a book. The author is really the
only person who can do the job. Despite this, many authors have little
experience in the technical aspects of creating an index. Read through The Chicago Manual
of Style as it presents an extensive discussion of the procedures involved.
If you need further help, consult with the Production Editor.
